Spider-Man 3 Ravages Box Office Records (May 8, 2007) Spider-Man 3 smashed virtually ever box office record in it's opening weekend, taking in a huge $151 million, making it an "instant blockbuster". The astonishing numbers even caught the film's distributor, Sony Pictures, by surprise. "Sam Raimi is a genius," said Amy Pascal, Sony Pictures co-chairman. "I could have never envisioned this. What I was hoping was we would just break the 'Spider-Man 1' record. This is beyond my wildest dream." Spider-Man 3 now holds the record for the largest single day gross ($59 million), the biggest opening weekend ever, $151 million, and the quickest movie to reach $100 million (less than two days). The original Spider-Man movie, in it's opening weekend, grossed just over $114 million in its opening weekend. Spider-Man 2 had a much lower opening weekend with $88 million. The
movie's take virtually guarantees a Spider-Man 4. |
