Patrick Wilson was born in Virginia but spent most of his
early years growing up in St. Petersburg, Florida. His mother
is a singer and voice teacher, and his father is a TV anchor
in Florida. Wilson is also a singer/songwriter of his own
music and received his BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University.
Wilson first made his mark on New York audiences in the Off
Broadway musical adaptation Bright Lights, Big City, for which
he earned a Drama Desk Nomination and a Drama League Award.
Wilson also won a Drama League Award for his performance in
the Broadway musical Fascinating Rhythm, a revue of George
and Ira Gershwin songs.
Wilson was nominated for a second consecutive Tony Award
for best lead actor in a musical for his portrayal of Curly
in the Broadway musical revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein
II’s Oklahoma! Before Oklahoma! he portrayed Jerry Lukowski
in the Broadway musical The Full Monty. This role gained him
numerous award nominations, including a Tony nomination for
Leading Actor in a Musical, Drama Desk Nomination, Drama League
Award, and an Outer Critic’s Circle Nomination.
Wilson’s film career includes a starring role in the
Mike Nichols HBO series Angels in America, a role that garnered
him a Golden Globe nomination. Angels in America, based on
a play by Tony Kushner and also starring Meryl Streep, Al
Pacino, Mary Louise Parker and Emma Thompson, received the
Golden Globe for Best Miniseries in 2004. After his performance
in this award winning miniseries, Wilson starred opposite
Jason Patric, Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton in The Alamo,
directed by John Lee Hancock. He can more recently be seen
playing the role of Raoul de Chagny in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
The Phantom of the Opera. Wilson recently completed work in
Los Angeles on the indie film Hard Candy for director David
Slade.
