Minnie Driver first came to the attention of audiences and
critics alike in 1995 for her performance as Bernadette 'Benny'
Hogan in Circle of Friends, starring opposite Chris O’Donnell.
She earned Oscar and Screen Actors Guild nomination in the
category of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a
Supporting Role for her performance in Gus Van Sant’s
Good Will Hunting. In March 1998, Driver was honored with
the Female Star of Tomorrow Award at ShoWest.
In 2003, Driver appeared at London’s Comedy Theatre
with Matthew Perry and Hank Azaria in David Mamet’s
Sexual Perversity in Chicago, a play that broke the record
for the largest box office advance for a West End show. Also
in 2003, Driver co-starred with Phillip Seymour Hoffman in
the dark comedy Owning Mahowny, directed by Richard Kwietniowski.
In the 2003-2004, Driver made several guest appearances on
NBC’s television series Will & Grace as “Lorraine
Finster.” Recently, Driver can be seen in the independent
film Virgin of Juarez, also starringes Esai Morales and Jane
Lynch and in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the
Opera as Carlotta.
Driver’s more popular roles include Debi Newberry dark
comedy Grosse Pointe Blank; Grace Briggs in the love story
Return To Me; Miss Mabel Chiltern in the feature version of
Oscar Wilde’s play An Ideal Husband, co-staring with
Cate Blanchett, Rupert Everett and Julianne Moore; and as
the voice of Jane in the Walt Disney animated feature Tarzan.
Her additional film credits include High Heels and Low Lifes
directed by Mel Smith, The Governess, Beautiful, directed
by Sally Field and co-produced by Two Drivers Productions
(the company Driver formed with her sister Kate), Big Night,
directed by Stanley Tucci, Hope Springs, Ella Enchanted starring
Anne Hathaway, Sleepers, alongside Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt
and Dustin Hoffman and directed by Barry Levinson and the
James Bond thriller Goldeneye.
She has been involved in numerous projects for the BBC and
theatrical productions of The Comedy of Errors, The Married
Man, School for Scandal and Camino Real.
On a personal level, Driver is a spokesperson for the international
fair trade agency OXFAM and, in early 2004, she traveled to
Cambodia and Thailand to bring attention to how backward practices
of the garment industry affect the poverty stricken workforce.
Her other involvements include Facing Forward, a charity organization
founded by former model Louise Ashby, which raises funds for
corrective surgery for children with facial deformities.
Currently residing in Los Angeles (with a home also in London),
Driver is also an accomplished singer and songwriter and released
her debut album, Everything I’ve Got In My Pocket, in
September 2004.
