The results are in and surprise upset Best Picture winner Crash has outranked Brokeback Mountain.
The 78th Annual Academy Awards delivered a surprising vote for best picture when Jack Nicholson announced Crash as the best picture winner this year. Many critics were anticipating Brokeback Mountain to take the Oscar for best picture this year, especially after its Best Picture award at the Golden Globes.
Hollywood had hinted at a possible upset by Crash in the Best Picture category, but many were still leaning toward the original favorite, Brokeback Mountain, before the awards were announced. Even the producers and cast themselves seemed shocked that they had beat out the expected winner.
