Jane Austin's classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, will be brought to the big screen in September of this year.
Pride and Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley will be in theaters September 22, 2005. Ms. Austen’s classic tale of love and values unfolds in the class-conscious England of the late 18th century. The five Bennet sisters – including strong-willed Elizabeth (Knightley), and young Lydia (Jenna Malone) – have all been raised by their mother (Brenda Blethyn) with one purpose in life; to find a husband. When a wealthy bachelor moves into a nearby mansion, the Bennets are excited and eager to find out all about him. The believe that there will be plenty of suitors for the Bennet sisters amongst the man’s sophisticated circle of friends. But when Elizabeth meets up with the handsome and – it would seem – snobbish Mr. Darcy (Macfadyen), the battle of the sexes is joined.
Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, King Arthur) stars with Matthew Macfadyen (MI-5), two-time Academy Award® nominee Brenda Blethyn, Donald Sutherland (Cold Mountain), Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day), Jena Malone (Saved!), Tom Hollander (Gosford Park), Penelope Wilton (Shaun of the Dead), and Academy Award® winner Judi Dench.
Joe Wright is making his feature directorial debut on the film, which had an 11-week location shooting schedule in the U.K. The novel is adapted for the screen by Deborah Moggach (author of Tulip Fever). The producers are Working Title co-chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Paul Webster. Debra Hayward and Liza Chasin are the executive producers, and Jane Frazer is the co-producer. Pride and Prejudice will be released abroad by Universal Pictures International through UIP.
