Warner Bros. May Replace Radcliffe as Harry Potter

Controversy over Daniel Radcliffe doing a nude scene and simulated sex scene in a stage production titled Equus may lead to his termination as Harry Potter.

The Daily Mail says that executives at Warner Bros., who produce, fund, and distribute the popular Harry Potter movies, are dismayed at Radcliffe’s nude scene in the play and publicly released publicity photos. The Harry Potter family-aimed movies have created a hefty franchise for Warner Bros. and with more movies in the works, the studio may soon be looking for an actor to replace Radcliffe. No final decision has been reached.

Equus is a play about a 17-year old boy taken to a mental health clinic over his obsession with mutilating horses. The play, which has been done before, opened in London last week at the Gielgud Theatre with Daniel Radcliffe playing the 17-year old boy. Publicity photos show Radcliffe nude from behind and nude posing with a horse.

“We’ve been blown completely out of the water by this,” said one studio exec.

Filming for the next Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix), due out this summer, finished last year and Warner Bros. has been hyping Potter’s first kiss in the movie since. Now studio execs are meeting to decide Radcliffe’s future in the franchise.
