America Selects Tom Hanks as Favorite Movie Star |

A new national survey reveals Americas top movie star picks, which include Hanks, Johnny Depp, and John Wayne, among others.
Tom Hanks is America’s favorite movie star, according to an annual Harris Poll survey. This is the second year in a row that Hanks has won the honor. Coming in second this year was Johnny Depp and third was a tie between John Wayne and Harrison Ford.
The annual Harris Poll, to determine Americans favorite movie star, polled over 1,000 Americans between December 8 – 14, 2005. Julia Roberts is the highest ranked female, appearing in the number 5 slot. Rounding out the top 10 are Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, George Clooney, Sean Connery, and Sandra Bullock.
In regards to overall favorite, men favored John Wayne and women favored Tom Hanks. African Americans favored Denzel Washington, while Hispanics were split between Mel Gibson and Katherine Hepburn.
In the decade that the poll has been conducted, Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford are tied for the most years voted the people’s favorite movie star, each winning three years. In 2001, Julia Roberts became the first female to come in first place.
