Walt Disney Shows Interest in Acquiring Pixar |
|
Walt Disney is negotiating with Pixar to outright buy the popular animation company, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Pixar and Disney have had a rough relationship, causing Pixar to look at signing a contract with another studio to distribute its movies last year. The creator of Toy Story, A Bugs Life, Monsters, Inc., and The Incredibles, amongst others, has been a massively profitable venture due to the solid performance of each of its movies. The Incredibles, released in 2004, made over $630,000 Worldwide. Solid performances, like this, had studios clamoring to make a deal with Pixar.
However, after much feuding, Disney and Pixar mended their differences; partially upon the announcement of Disney CEO Michael Eisner retiring. If a deal to acquire Pixar goes through then Pixar CEO Steve Jobs will become the largest shareholder in the Walt Disney Company. Currently, Jobs owns more than 50% of Pixar shares.
According to the Wall Street Journal, talks are said to be serious, but not absolute.
