 Derek Luke garnered the National Board of Review Award for Best Male Breakout Performance as well as an Independent Spirit Award for his portrayal of Antwone Fisher in Denzel Washington’s film of the same name. First-time director, Denzel Washington, picked Luke out of hundreds of other young actors for Antwone Fisher partly because of Luke’s determination and perseverance.
After Antwone Fisher, Luke appeared opposite actor Laurence Fishburne in Biker Boyz. Other film credits include Pieces of April with Katie Holmes, the drama Friday Night Lights co-starring Billy Bob Thornton and Jay Hernandez, and Spartan.
Luke will next be seen in the drama Glory Road, directed by James Gartner.
