Based on the novel by Walter and Steven Farley, The Young Black Stallion is the new installment of the original Black Stallion feature film, developed by the same screenwriter and producer of the original film. This family film is Disney’s first dramatic adventure made specifically for the IMAX screen. A prequel to the 1979 motion picuture, The Black Stallion, The Young Black Stallion is set in Norther Africa at the end of World War II.
The film focuses on the adventures of a young girl named Neera when she becomes separated from her family and is alone to wander the desert. A wild young stallion comes to Neera’s aid and Neera and Shetan (her name for the stallion) form a special bond during their quest through the desert to return home to Neera’s grandfather. As her bond with the stallion grows stronger, Neera comes up with a plan to race Shetan in the annual horse race to help rebuild her grandfather’s soiled reputation.
