X-men, based on the Marvel comic book series, takes place in a future where humans are mutating into beings with unique powers. Runaway mutant Rogue (Anna Paquin) and bad-tempered mutant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) find each other when racing through the Canadian wilderness when both are attacked by Magneto (Ian McKellen). When they think all is lost, they are saved by two students of the compassionate Professor Charles Xavier’s (Patrick Stewart) School for Gifted Youngsters.
The two heroes, Cyclops (James Marsden) and Storm (Halle Berry), take Rogue and Wolverine back to Xavier’s school where they learn about the conflict between Xavier and Magneto. Magneto wants to power a device that will genetically change humans, running the risk of possibly killing them. Xavier is training his students to stop Magneto from harming the human race.
Bryan Singer of The Usual Suspects fame directs this film, which is the first live-action film about an entire group of superheroes.
