A Walk to Remember is a coming of age story based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. It deals with an unlikely couple, Landon Carter (Shane West) and Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore).
Landon was unlikely to fall for a girl like Jamie, she was serious and conservative, a far cry from the cool crowd Landon associated himself with. Her appeal was her self-confidence that didn’t depend on other people’s opinions. Jamie was the daughter of the town’s Baptist minister and she was proud of her faith. Landon was aimless, moody, and reckless, hanging with the in-crowd, which made fun of anyone who didn’t meet their standards. His crowd would taunt Jamie because of her faith and plain clothes.
One night a prank that Landon and his friends set up ends up backfiring and putting a kid in the hospital. As punishment, Landon is assigned to tutor a young student on the weekends and participate in the Drama Club’s spring play. These two activities go against Landon’s cool image and the principal hopes from these two activities he will learn some humility and responsibility. Jamie, already a tutor and the lead in the play, then becomes a big part of his life when he is forced to ask her for help with both tasks.
Landon falls in love with Jamie, going against his friends and his own expectations. He loves her passion for life but for reasons of her own, Jamie tries hard to run away from her feelings for Landon until it is impossible for her to ignore or deny.
