When Frances (Diane Lane), a San Francisco writer, begins to spiral downward after a recent divorce her friend Patti (Sandra Oh) gives her a gift insured to get her out of her funk. She gives her a ten-day trip to Tuscany, Italy. Frances reluctantly decides to go.
While enjoying the features of Italy, Frances follows an overwhelming impulse and buys a small villa named “Bramasole.” Frances uses her ten-day trip as the beginning of a whole new life. At “Bramasole” Frances embraces local customs and devotes her time to the restoration of her run-down home. In the process, she forms close bonds with those around her and is once again able to appreciate and take part in strong friendship, fun, and romance. Under the Tuscan Sun is one woman’s journey through local customs, small pleasures, and possibly a second chance at love. Frances realizes that in life there are second chances.
Under the Tuscan Sun is based on the best-selling novel by Frances Mayes and stars Diane Lane as Frances Mayes, Sandra Oh as Patti, Lindsay Duncan as Katherine, and Raoul Bova as Marcello.
