PDI / DreamWorks Shrek is an irreverent animated comedy that pokes fun at fairy-tales and virtually everything Disney, while appealing to both kids and adults.
In Shrek, an ogre named Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) is blackmailed into rescuing a princess and taking her to the evil Lord Farquaad, who has a severe case of short man’s syndrome. The blackmail comes after Shrek’s swamp is overcome by fairy-tale creatures that have been exiled from Lord Farquaad’s domain. Shrek’s quiet existence is thrown into chaos and he sets out on his journey with a promise that his land will be returned to him upon successfully rescuing the princess.
Accompanying Shrek on his journey to rescue Princess Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz) is a donkey named Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy). But they soon find out that the stubborn Princess Fiona can more than stand up for herself. Secrets are exposed, and irreverence rules the realm (like Donkey peeing on a fire to put it out) as these three discover that it’s not what’s on the outside that counts, but rather what is revealed when the layers are pulled back, exposing true inner beauty.
Shrek was the first animated movie to win the then-new “Best Animated Movie” Oscar at the Academy Awards. It is one of the highest-grossing animated movies of all time.
