 In Sahara, master explorer Dirk Pitt (Matthew McConaughey) starts a search for a mysterious cargo in the dangerous regions of West Africa. The cargo has remained hidden for more than a century because all who have sought it have never returned home.
Pitt, along his wisecracking sidekick (Steve Zahn) and attractive Doctor Evan Rojas (Penelope Cruz), are searching for what the locals call “The Ship of Death”, a long lost Civil War battleship filled with coins and treasure. Doctor Rojas believes the ship may be linked to several mysterious deaths in the same area. The trio have to rely on their wits and clever heroics if they are to solve the mystery.
