Memoirs of a Geisha begins just before World War II in Japan. A Japanese girl has been torn from her poor family in order to work as a servant in a geisha house. Despite her hardships and fierce rivalry with another, the girl transforms from fragile child to legendary geisha Sayuri.

Sayuri is well-trained, beautiful, and quite accomplished, giving her the ability to captivate the most powerful men that cross her path. Even with this amazing talent of seduction, Sayuri is haunted by her secret love for one special man that is beyond her reach.

Memoirs of a Geisha stars Ziyi Zhang, Ken Watanabe, Michelle Yeoh, Koji Yakusho, Youki Kudoh, Kaori Momoi, Tsai Chin, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Suzuka Ohgo and Gong Li. The movie, based on the popular novel by Arthur Golden, was directed by Rob Marshal from a screenplay by Robin Swicord and Doug Wright.
