In Cinderella Man, Russell Crowe stars as the legendary boxer Jim Braddock, a promising light heavyweight boxer forces to retire after a loosing streak in the ring.  The biopic takes place during the bleakest years of the Great Depression as Braddock, along with a majority of the population, struggles in a string of dead-eng jobs in order to support his wife, May (Renée Zellweger), and his children.

Braddock still holds on to his lifelong dream of going back into the ring and, thanks to a last minute cancellation, he is given the opportunity to head back into the ring against the second-ranked world contender.  He shocks the crowd when he wins the race in the third round.  Braddock faces difficult odds, being quite a bit lighter than his opponents and struggling with reapeated hand injuries, but continues to fight and continues to win.  Braddock is given the nickname “Cinderella Man” and symbolically fights for the hopes and dreams of the struggling masses.

Tensions rise when Braddock has to fight his most difficult challenger, Max Baer (Craig Bierko), the heavyweight champion of the world who has gained tough reputation after killing two men in the boxing ring.

Cinderella Man stars Russell Crowe, Renée Zellweger and Craig Bierko; is produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Penny Marshall; is written by Cliff Hollingsworth, C. Gaby Mitchell, Akiva Goldsman; and is directed by Ron Howard. The film is a Universal Pictures/Miramax Films co-production of an Imagine Entertainment presentation, with Universal Pictures distributing domestically and Buena Vista International handling the international distribution of the film for Miramax.
