With such a highly anticipated film hitting theaters later this month, betting services are among the many trying to cash in on the event.

Clark Kent is back as Superman to save the world when Superman Returns opens Wednesday, June 28. The highly anticipated film is expected to draw large crowds across the U.S. during its opening weekend. Anticipation has been so high that betting services like Sportsbook.com, are now offering odds on the film's opening weekend U.S. gross.

"Superman Returns and Americans are anxious to see how the new Man of Steel measures up to Superman icon Christopher Reeve," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director, Sportsbook.com. "Everybody bets and movie buffs are always thinking about the next big blockbuster. Superman Returns could be the summer's first truly big hit and bettors want to weigh in."

The latest installment of the Superman films, the first since Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in 1987, features newcomer Brandon Routh as The Man of Steel.

Routh takes over for the late Christopher Reeve who embodied the Superman franchise throughout the '70s and '80s. Joining Routh are Hollywood heavyweights Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther, and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. Superman Returns is directed by Bryan Singer whose directing credits include X- Men, X-2, and The Usual Suspects.

The film's producers have great expectations for Superman's return to the box office thanks to favorable reviews and a whopping production budget of more than $200 million. Not to mention the fact that American audiences love their superhero movies. The season's last superhero film, X-Men: The Last Stand, had an opening weekend gross of $102.75 million.
