Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire In Space

NASA worked with Warner Bros. to bring the most recent Harry Potter film to the International Space Station.

The blockbuster sequel Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire had its space premiere earlier this week. The movie was transmitted into space from Mission Control in Houston at the request of NASA astronaut and International Space Station Commander Bill McArthur.

McArthur had asked to see the movie and, as part of NASA’s regular assistance to crew members on long-duration space flights, McArthur got his wish. NASA contacted Warner Bros. Pictures, the production company in charge of the newest Harry Potter film, to work together to send the film to McArthur.

While International Space Station crew members have busy work schedules, they do have scheduled downtime and, over the years, the station has compiled a DVD movie library, as well as an extensive library of books, magazines, CDs, and other entertainment material to help the astronauts relax. McArthur and Russian cosmonaut Valery Tokarev make up the 12th crew of the station, a unique testbed for longer-duration to the moon and to Mars.
